We had great fun planting and looking after our cress seeds this week. We have been learning about life cycles and found the life cycle of a plant very interesting. We learned all about how to care for a plant and to make sure it has everything it needs to grow. We also learned a song as Gaeilge called "Síolta Beaga."

Our value this week is fairness. We are learning about what fairness actually means - not that everyone gets the same thing but that everyone gets what they need to be successful We thought of examples where we can see this in school and at home. We also brainstormed ideas for how we can show fairness towards others or act in a fair way, especially in the classroom and at lunch time. We enjoyed listening to this story which explains more about what it means to be fair.
We are revising what we know about nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs by searching for these in the books we love! As we love Harry Potter in Daisies, we soon found out that these books were full of interesting words that we could use in our own writing. As a team, we sorted the words we found into different groups and tried to find as many of each as we could! We really enjoyed this activity and will definitely do it again soon!
We had lots of fun this week making our valentines candle holders. We decorated them with jewels and beads. When they were dry, we painted them and wrapped them up to give them as a gift to someone.
We are learning how to use a dictionary in 2nd class to check the spelling of words and to find out the meanings of new, interesting words. Working with a partner always makes this task more fun!
We have been working hard at maths, especially on our subtraction skills. We are learning to recognise when we need to borrow a ten (or rename a ten as units) to solve a maths problem. We have a poem to help us with our subtractions sums. This video is also helpful. We have just finished our first novel 'The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark'. We really enjoyed learning about the main character Plot and how he overcomes his fear of the dark by exploring and talking about it to the people he meets on his adventures.. We drew our very own versions of Plop against a night sky background.
As part of our 'spring' topic, we are learning about new life and have been exploring the life cycle of the butterfly. We really enjoyed this story about how Cody the Caterpillar grows and changes into a beautiful butterfly.
Our value for the next fortnight is honesty. Here are a couple of the quotes, stories and songs we have been using. Spring is finally here. We are learning all about the seasonal changes that occur in spring and all about the different types of flowers we can see in our gardens. We learned how to draw various types of flowers in vases using different lines and shapes. They turned out amazing!
