SCIENCE & STEAM
Pupils in Scoil na Naomh Uilig regularly participate in engaging science and STEAM activities, which develop their scientific, critical thinking and problem solving skills. Teamwork and collaboration also feature hugely, skills which can then be transferred to many other curricular areas.
Ms Burke's Chairs
Children had to build their own chairs out of items from home.. Well done!
Space Week STEM
What a blast of a day 6th class had last Friday. We had great crack (!) doing an eggs-elent STEM activity for Space Week
We used the Artemis Moon Landing Project as a stimulus to design and build a mechanism that would enable a delicate object (the eggs!) to be carried safely from one point to another. We created a zip line from fishing line from an upstairs window to the yard and launched the children’s creations from the window with the hope that the eggs would remain intact
All our three 6th classes were involved and the children worked in groups of 4-5. They had time to plan their design individually and then came together in their groups to collaborate on a final design. Then they had time to build their vehicles
We had a great day and the buzz and excitement on our corridor was wonderful. The children came up with super ideas and we had such fun launching the eggs from the window. The final activity was to reflect on what had worked well and what they could improve.
