Advent
As we light the 3rd candle, the pink candle which is also known as the Joy candle, we ask you God to send your blessings upon us.
Father in heaven, we know that you love all your people. Your love brings the gift of joy to our hearts. During this 3rd week of Advent let us remember that the good news of Jesus’ birth has the power to bring us great joy this Christmas. Thank you for the joy we feel as we celebrate the birth of Jesus.
Dear God, We think of all the unhappy children in the world today. We ask you to bring a little joy to their hearts this Christmas.
Amen.

The second candle of Advent is the Candle of Peace. It is sometimes called the Bethlehem Candle to remind us of the place where Baby Jesus was born. God gives us the gift of peace when we turn to him in faith and love.
Our hope is in God, and in his son Jesus Christ. Our peace is found in him. The second purple candle the Peace Candle reminds us that Jesus brings peace to all who trust in him.
Loving God, we thank you for the peace you give us through Jesus Christ. Help us prepare our hearts to receive Him. Guide us in all that we say and do.
We make this prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

This week we begin to celebrate the season of Advent. The four weeks of Advent help us to get ready to celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas. We have this Advent wreath in our school to remind us that Jesus comes to bring light to the darkness, the light of God’s love for each one of us. The Advent Wreath is in the shape of a circle because just like a circle God’s love has no beginning and no end. Evergreen leaves are used to make advent wreaths because just like these leaves that stay green all through the year, God’s love for us is everlasting.
Lord our God, bless this wreath and bless all of us gathered here today. May this wreath help us to focus on the coming of Jesus as we journey through Advent. As we light the candles each week may we be reminded of the hope, peace, joy and love that Jesus brings into the world.
Father in heaven, as we light the first purple candle, the Hope candle on our advent wreath we ask you to send the warmth of your love in our hearts and the light of your Word in our minds. Help us to grow in our faith so that we will be prepared and filled with HOPE when Jesus comes this Christmas.
Dear God, in our own little way help us to bring hope to children who are afraid, sad or alone. We ask you to bring hope for tomorrow. Through us, shine your light of HOPE upon them.
Our Advent journey begins today, and we pray that it will be a time filled with hope, peace, joy and love as we wait for the coming of the best gift of all, the gift of Jesus.
Amen.
