Aistear in action!

Aistear (the Irish word for journey) is the national curriculum framework for the education and care of children from birth to six years in Ireland, published by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA). (earlychildhoodireland.ie)

Aistear tells us that engaging in play is good for children’s health and well-being.  It is a way of creating community so that children develop a sense of identity and belonging.  It is a way of communicating and exploring and thinking.  These, Aistear tells us, are the most important learning outcomes in early childhood. (www.earlychildhoodireland.ie)

Aistear is a very important methodology of teaching infants in our school. The children love and look forward to Aistear time each day!
Every fortnight we focus on a new theme and much of our class work is based around this theme. This gives children the opportunity to learn and use the new language based around the theme in many different ways.
You will now get to see your children in action during Aistear time! You will notice how engaged, happy and focused they are at this time! That is because they are expressing themselves so freely, using their imagination, being creative and having fun!
