Student Council Elections 2023
It's that time of year when we begin the process of electing our new Student Counctil for the 2023-24 school year. One student councillor from each 3rd, 4th and 5th class and two from each 6th class
will be nominated by their classmates through a secret ballot, resulting in 15 student
councillors in total.
Our Student Council play a vibrant and important role in school life in Scoil na Naomh Uilig. Some of the roles and duties attached to being elected are as follows:
● To provide an opportunity for pupils to voice their opinions and offer suggestions in
relation to many aspects of school life.
● To discuss issues relevant to the school and encourage and promote initiatives from
the pupils.
● To act as a channel for communication for the pupils within the school, between pupils
and between home and school.
● To assist with the organisation of events central to the life of the school.
● To provide an opportunity to raise funds for charities.
The campaigns have begun in earnest, we certainly wish every child putting their name forward for election the very best with their campaign.

Amber Flag
Don't forget to donate and to send in your active photographs by Friday. We will be picking our winning classes on 3rd March! Thanks to everyone who has supported this initiative!
This year the Student Council in SNU are leading whole school efforts in the Amber Flag initiative run by Pieta House. This initiative recognises the individual efforts of primary and secondary schools, youthreach, third level institutions, community groups and clubs to create healthy, inclusive environments that support mental well-being.
Our end goal is to unite the school in their efforts, working together toward a happier, healthier SNU and to educate the children about their mental health and then eradicate the stigmas associated with mental health issues.
As part of our engagement with the programme we carried out an audit of our initial practice and from this have set a number of targets to be achieved across the school year. One of our targets involves having a fundraiser while also educating the children about who Pieta are and what exactly they do. Our plan is for the Student Council to complete a running challenge for the month of February on the days we are in school, where we will run the equivalent of a mile a day for the 28 days. So 28 miles for the council across the month. And at the same time we will work with all of the children in the classes talking about Pieta, but also the benefits of physical activity for our mental health. The children will then be encouraged to take pictures or videos of themselves engaging in physical activity at home and can send these across to the council through Google Classroom. We will have a little prize for the most active junior, senior and SEN class at the end of the month while the children will get a chance to see how exercise can help them too.
Throughout the month we will have some collection buckets dotted around the school. The children are welcome to bring money for the buckets if they wish. All money collected will be donated to Pieta.
We thank you in advance for your support.
Kindest Regards,
The Student Council

Student Council Elections 2021
The election of Student Council representatives for this school year took place on Friday October 15th - congratulations to all of our newly elected members! 🎉
A number of super candidates ran for election in each senior class, with campaigns involving eye-catching posters, clever slogans, and plenty of motivating speeches. A huge well done to all of the fantastic boys and girls who took part in this year's campaigns - while not everyone could be elected to the council, we are lucky to have so many brilliant candidates who are willing to step forward and represent the students' voice in SNU.
