KYT
DRAMA CLASSES

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The Kildare Youth Theatre drama project “Crooked Mice” are offering weekly drama sessions to children for €2 per workshop commencing this October.

Tutors: The workshops are offered by responsible young people from KYT as a way to help them share their knowledge of drama, to improve their ability to facilitate and to contribute to our community wellbeing. They are aged 18 to 20 and have been Garda Vetted by Crooked House. They are familiar with our Child Protection Policy. They are not, however, skilled in working with special needs children (in which case parents might volunteer to attend the class along with their son/daughter to help).             Parents are welcome to attend the class and join in as a support.

Content: The workshops for children focus on: (1) developing social skills through drama; (2) creating short sketches and stories based on the child’s understanding of the world; and (3) nurturing their imagination, playfulness and sense of fun. In time, if children enjoy this activity, they might consider joining Kildare Youth Theatre when they turn 14 years of age.

Start Date: Classes will begin when sufficient numbers have enrolled (usually 10 per group).  Classes will run alongside the school terms with none on bank holidays, seasonal holidays and mid-term breaks.

Times: Saturdays
12pm – 1.00pm ages 7,8,9 & “younger” 10 year olds
1.00pm – 2.30pm: ages “older” 10 year olds, 11, 12 and 13.
Please email the following information to crookedmicedrama@gmail.com or post: Crooked House, 1 Main Street, Newbridge, Co. Kildare. You can also leave details into the School Office.
  1. Your name, telephone number and email address
  2. Your child’s name and age
  3. Any particular needs that your child has of which we should be aware
  4. Your postal address

The school is not responsible for the classes. All enquiries should be made to Crooked Mice. Phone 045 446612

It is available from shops at a cost of €8.99 per book, but as a once off this year the school was in a position to purchase them at a reduced rate. Please purchase as soon as possible through your child’s class teacher.

COW – Cycle on Wednesday
As part of the school’s Active Flag and to encourage our children to be more active we are introducing a “Cycle on Wednesday (COW)” initiative. It started on Wednesday this week and we would like to see as many children as possible cycling to school. It is essential that everyone taking part observes the rules of the road, wears a high viz jacket, wears a cycling helmet and brings a lock for their bike. All children, and parents/guardians, should dismount their bike at the school gates and access the grounds through the pedestrian gates.

BAG TO SCHOOL

Dear Parent/Guardian,

The Parents Association is running a clothing collection in conjunction with Bag2School Ireland.

By getting involved in our Bag2School collection you have an opportunity to sort through your wardrobes and donate any unwanted textiles in the bag provided.

This can include adult and children’s clothes, shoes (tied together please), hats, belts, bags and teddies.

Please NO Duvets, Pillows, Curtains, Bedding, Towels or End-Of-Life Clothing

This will raise funds for the school and The LauraLynn House will also receive an additional 10% from Bag2School. The LauraLynn House is the only Children’s Hospice in Ireland.

In addition it will raise awareness amongst the children of the benefits of recycling and reuse.

Bags will be distributed to each child on Thursday 6th October and should be brought back to school on Monday 10th October.  Please try to fill as many bags as you can, don’t forget to ask grandparents, friends and neighbours to have a sort out as well!  You can return clothes in any kind of bag.

Many thanks for helping us with this unique fundraising opportunity!

Please reiterate the importance of taking care on the bridge and on all routes to and from school each day.
