REMINDER-- *SCHOOL CLOSED THURSDAY 22nd FEB 2018*IN-SERVICE DAY Junior Infant Enrolments for 2018 Junior Infants 2018 offer of places will be posted on Thursday 1st February. If you have a child due to start school in September 2018 and have not yet completed an application form, please contact the Parish Office ASAP and fill out the enrolment form indicating your choice of school. Catholic Schools Week, Assembly & Grandparents Day Catholic Schools week takes place from Sunday 28th January until 3rd February. As part of Catholic School’s Week, all members of our school community, parents/guardians and children, are invited to attend 7pm mass on Saturday next 27th January in Chill Mhuire, School uniform is not obligatory. Grandparents Day will be held during Catholic Schools Week on Wednesday next 31st January and all Grandparents are invited to attend a special assembly which will be held at 9am in the school hall. Tea and coffee will be available in the small hall immediately afterwards. We look forward to meeting our Grandparents that morning. Cumann na mBunscoil Basketball League The girls have made it through to the finals in the Schools’ Basketball League. Well done SNU girls!! The girls will play in the final, week commencing 5th February and we wish them the best of luck. The boys made it through to the semi-finals, no mean achievement, and played with great spirit but it wasn’t to be their day. Better luck next year!. Junior Cycle Information for Parents of Primary School Children please see information leaflet issued by Department of Education which can be accessed on the school website www.snu.ie A night at the Musicals Monday & Tuesday 12th & 13th February.. REMINDER---- SCHOOL CLOSURE IN-SERVICE DAY *SCHOOL CLOSED THURSDAY 22nd FEB 2018 *IN-SERVICE DAY Please note that the school has been directed by the Department of Education to hold a Compulsory In-Service day to facilitate training for teachers in the new Primary Language Curriculum. The school will be CLOSED on Thursday 22nd February. Food Dudes Our healthy eating programme will be starting tomorrow 19th January. As part of the programme your child will receive a piece of fruit & veg each day, as outlined in information leaflets sent home with your child this week. Ceremony of Light for 6th class pupils and their parents will be held on 23rd January at 7.30 in Chill Mhuire Church. Confirmation: 6th Class will make their Confirmation on Tuesday 13th March at 2.30pm in Dominical Church. The Confirmation Mass will be Celebrated by Bishop Nulty. We wish them all well on this very special and holy Sacrament. Maths for Parents – Helping your child with Homework. Thank you for your support during the past year and I hope we will all have a healthy, happy and fruitful 2018. Can I remind you how important it is to have your children in school every day, unless they are sick. If your child is absent or needs to go home early, a note is required for the class teacher. Swimming There will be no swimming classes until after the mid-term break in February. Winter Flu Advice The Department of Education has endorsed the HSE’s advice on not sending children to school if they have flu-like symptoms. As parents please make yourself aware of the symptoms of flu and teach your children good health habits to help stop the spread of germs. Toys for Aistear Programme Our Junior Infants classes are looking for donations of toys for our Aistear programme, under the following themes: Camping, Halloween, The Bus Station, The Dentist, The Clothes Shop, The French Bakery, The Italian Restaurant, The Vet, The Toy Hospital, The Travel Agent and The Post Office. If anyone is having a clear-out of toys at home and have any toys that fit these themes we would be delighted to receive them. Many thanks. BAG2SCHOOL Please drop the bags in the back of the big hall at school pick-up times on Monday(15th) and Tuesday(16th) morning Dear Parent/Guardian, The Parents Association is running a clothing collection in January in conjunction with Bag2School Ireland. By getting involved in our Bag2School collection you have an opportunity to sort through your wardrobes and donate any unwanted textiles in the bag provided. This can include adult and children’s clothes, shoes (tied together please), hats, belts, bags and teddies. Please NO Duvets, Pillows, Curtains, Bedding, Towels or End-Of-Life Clothing This will raise funds for the school and The LauraLynn House will also receive an additional 10% from Bag2School. The LauraLynn House is the only Children’s Hospice in Ireland. In addition it will raise awareness amongst the children of the benefits of recycling and reuse. Bags are being distributed to each child today and should be brought back to school on Monday 15th January or Tuesday 16th January. Please try to fill as many bags as you can, don’t forget to ask grandparents, friends and neighbours to have a sort out as well! You can return clothes in any kind of bag. Musical Rehearsals –Rehearsals for the children taking part in the school show will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2.30pm – 4.30pm!
