Just a little message to say every single one of you should be so proud of yourselves for working so hard this year, especially when on the 13th of March our school life changed so much.
Well done all of you! I really have enjoyed the year getting to know all of you. Keep up the hard work Most importantly though, ENJOY THE SUMMER! 🌞😎🌞 -Ms Scanlon This week we went back to our 3 lessons daily. We did some tricky maths puzzles and maths trails. Learned about the GAA and its history and did some project work on GAA in certain counties. We took inspiration from Van Gogh and painted and created Sunflowers. We even did some GAA challenges on https://learning.gaa.ie/gogamesskillchallenges
As a treat for all the great work that everyone has done since March, 4th class engaged in some active, fun lessons this week We did some procedural writing creating recipes, baked some treats, designed obstacle courses, made robots, copied viral dances and created some nature art after doing a Nature Hunt. The last three days have been busy. Have a look at all the amazing items we made! Last week as part of our home/school work, everyone was asked to write an email to Ms Scanlon to update her on all the activities. Here is a little snippet of what people have been up to:
Alex has been playing lots of football and basketball outside, as well as riding his bike. He also has been playing on his Xbox. Caelan has been playing Gaelic, soccer and swing-ball at home. He cannot wait until sports are back on, but until then is bringing his football to the Curragh. He has also been video calling some of his friends. Callum D has been busy painting the garden shed with his parents and has been going on lots of cycles. Ciara celebrated her 11th birthday on the 1st of June. She has been keeping really active at home but is missing her sport. She plays Bingo in her estate every Saturday and even won some money! Kyle has been busy looking after his baby sister. He also has been acing the social distancing pizza parties out in his garden and even had a water fight over the fence with his neighbour! Kyle has been an avid reader and is currently reading "Ice Monster" Sarah has been busy creating cardboard rockets and castles. She also was very lucky as her mother ordered caterpillars a few back and she has watched them change to butterflies! Treasure celebrated her birthday on the 14th of May. She has been playing Sims4, Roblox and watching Youtube videos on her computer. We are motoring on and continuing to work our hardest in the Strawberries. We have learnt about decimals in Maths, Communication in SESE and recapping on balances in PE. We also took some inspiration from Picasso and his creation "Guernica" to create some very unusual art this week. Check it all out in the slideshow below! Well done everyone! The pupils in the Strawberries are still continuing to produce amazing work. This week we created projects on Scandinavia. All of which are extremely informative. Some students chose to create them on paper, while others created them using PowerPoint. The children practiced their multiplication and division and computed some tricky money problems. We wrote brilliant irish sentences. Scríobhamar abairtí iontach i nGaeilge. We also did some Aboriginal Artwork inspired by the Aboriginal People in Australia Check out some of our amazing work. Alyssa even sent in a video of her doing her Obstacle Course that was set as Active Homework last week.
With another week of online learning completed, the pupils in our class have continued with their amazing work ethic.
This week we focused on relearning our Mé Féin Abairtí i nGaeilge, learned how to add and subtract time and worked on our narrative writing. As we learnt about Nano Nagle and the amazing work she did for the poor people in Ireland in the 1700s we also looked at the many wonderful Irish heroes that are working on the front line at the moment. The children designed wonderful art pieces for Art competitions of their choosing, the Sligo IT draw an Irish animal, person or place on the Wild Atlantic Way and Draw Our Heroes. Some of the children have received their pen licenses. It's amazing how hard and diligently everyone is working! Another week down and another week full of hard work from the pupils in the Strawberries. This week investigated 3D shapes, learned about Cúchulainn from Irish mythology and wrote our own very persuasive writing pieces. Comh maith le sin, scríobhamar abairtí íontacha i nGaeilge. Bhíomar an-ghnóthach. Tá an caighdeán an-ard in ár rang. The pupils in the Strawberries have been working hard again this week.
n Maths we learnt about Area and this really helped when we looked at maps in Geography. The children measured and made maps of the kitchen and some of us designed our Dream Garden for a Woodie's competition. Fingers crossed our designs will impress. In English we finished our novel "Under the Hawthorn Tree", read our book reviews to see if you might like to read the story. We also learned about the artist Frank Stella and used his pieces to inspire our own. Check out some of our other work we got up to below. While at home some of the school work the children have been doing is doing projects. Last week they were learning all about Earth and it's place in Space. They were encouraged to research another planet all by themselves. Have a read of what they came up with below. This week then for History they researched about Hannibal a famous leader of the Carthaginian army who trekked through the Alps with his men to reach Italy. Along with pictures of some of the projects, we also had PowerPoint presentations which can be opened by downloading the file below. Such amazing work!
We may all be away from school, but that hasn't stopped the amazing workers in The Strawberries.
Have a look at a snippet of all the amazing work completed by some of the children. The three 4th classes enjoyed a fantastic trip to the RDS on the 4th of May to attend the Science Blast event. We had all worked so hard and diligently in preparation for the big day. The Strawberries designed, tested and tallied all of our results for our project "Is Yawning Contagious". Our scientific investigations did indeed show that yawning is contagious. What we always thought was proved! On the day, the boys and girls were divided up into teams to stay and man our post. As people milled around we explained to them how we carried out our investigation, retrieved our results and displayed them We had so many people yawning by the end of the day. Kyle, Caelan and Olivia were there to explain it to the judges, who were very impressed. Overall, all of the children showed great workmanship and collaboration. As well as presenting our project we also enjoyed all the rest the exhibition had to offer. We explored for the day and visited many other schools' stalls, some which were really interactive and fun. We also got to see two science shows 'Circus Science' and 'Invisible Worlds'. What a long day we put down, but it was well worth it. In Science this month we studied the four main bridge types: Cantilever Bridges, Beam Bridges, Suspension Bridges and Arch Bridges. As a STEM challenge we tried to design, plan and build the best bridge using our knowledge and skills. The requirements for the bridge were that the bridge was to span a gap of 15cm and it had to hold the weight of 5 €1 coins. Check out the pictures to see how we got on! The challenge set was to create a boat that could hold the most amount of passengers. We all made boats over the course of a fortnight and tested them in class. Have a look through the pictures to see how variant and different they all are. All of our boats floated but some held more passengers than others. Some children even took it upon themselves to create boats with motors and remote controls! The talent and effort out into all of them was phenomenal! The boys and girls in the Strawberries eagerly awaited Santa's visit. We collected money for the children in Temple Street and got festive wearing our Christmas jumpers. Our class made a huge effort for the Witches' Walk. We had such a lovely day before the holidays. We even enjoyed hot chocolate as a lovely treat for all our hard work! Well done everyone.
The Strawberries have aced their multiplication, so we decided to have some fun with maths stations. Have a look at all the different activities we did. The games got quite competitive but we all really enjoyed them. |
