We had great fun today learning about Jackson Pollock and creating abstract art using drip painting. We learned that Pollock spread his canvas on the floor of his shed and worked on it there so we were allowed to work on a table cloth on the floor and create our pictures in the same way Pollock did. We really enjoyed it and the results are great! Take a look.
We are learning about how to care for our environment. We brainstormed ideas for what we should and should not do. We said littering is a big problem and really affects the environment in a bad way.
Some things rot but some things will not.
We did an experiment to see what will rot and what will not. In a box in our classroom we buried a used teabag, an unused teabag, a crisp packet, paper, a slice of bread, a Yop carton, a whole apple and a sliced apple. We will check it in a week to see what happened the things we buried and again in two weeks. We wonder what will happen!
We are talking and learning about Autumn in our class at the moment. Gavin found lovely conkers near his house and brought them in for the class. They are still in the husks so we are watching them everyday to see them opening.
Lots of children are finding lovely Autumn leaves and bringing them in.
We have learned Autumn poems and songs which are great fun to sing.
In art this week we made mosaic Autumn leaves using a leaf template and Autumn-coloured crépe paper. They look lovely on our window. Have a look up at them when you are near the school.
We had loads of fun playing maths games. We played dominoes, used the party hats to describe and talk about numbers, used giant playing cards to create number sentences for our friends, created pictures using tangrams and worked out answers on the maths wheels. We had a turn at each station. It was great fun.
