             Planting Herbs

Today the Foxgloves learned about and planted herbs in our school garden. They learned about the medicinal uses of 9 herbs including rosemary, parsley, peppermint, lavender, chamomile, marigold, lemon balm, heartsease and thyme. They had great fun taking turns digging and planting herbs. 

            Australia

3rd class have been busy learning about Australia and Aborigines. Every child completed a project on Australia and a piece of Aboriginal artwork called pointillism.

The children are learning about representing data.They have been busy making pictograms and bar charts based on their favourite sports, favourite desserts and their eye colours.

IRELAND

3rd class have been busy learning all the counties of Ireland. They all chose one county at random and completed a project on this. They also designed a flag for that county using crepe paper in art. 

Road safety

The Foxgloves have learned all about road safety. They made road safety posters and created road safety rules for perestrians, cyclists and motorists. The also can sing and perform the dance to the Safe Cross Code.

BAKING

On Thursday last the children in the Foxgloves made fruit salad and mars bar treats in the cookery room. They had great fun taking turns chopping, weighing and stirring ingredients. The children wrote the recipes for the fruit salad and the mars bar treats. They plan to get busy making these treats at home!

 FARMER'S VISIT

The Foxgloves and the Snowdrops were very fortunate to have a guest local farmer into their classrooms today to answer their questions about farming. Conor visited Room 35 and each child got to ask Conor one of their questions  they had composed earlier.
The children learned about tillage and dairy farming and discovered the rewards and hard work involved in farming.
  TRIP TO EMO PARK
On Tuesday 13th October the Foxgloves and the Snowdrops went on a class trip to Emo Park to celebrate World Tree Day. The children got a wonderful tour of the grounds on a beautiful summer's morning and learned how to identify trees from the bark and leaves. They then enjoyed a lovely picnic and completed tree rubbings.

The Foxgloves did an experiment on exploring different materials that freeze

Tin Whistle​

3rd class have resumed learning the Tin Whistle. Today every child got a new book with lots of Tin Whistle songs
