We were focusing on the Aztecs this week and discovered that they were very skilled craftsmen and produced a lot of beautiful and intricate artwork, often based on the gods that they believed in. We know that there were various gods that they worshipped including the sun and moon gods. Having looked at a range of the artwork they produced we decided to create some of our own.
We created Kinoptic art of suns and moons. Kinoptic art is art that tricks the eye and is achieved when two images are created in the one artwork and can be seen at two different angles. When one views the right side of the artwork, only one image is seen, however when the left side is viewed, one can only see the second image.
These artworks were created by drawing the pictures of the suns and moons and cutting them into one inch strips. We took a piece of card and using an 'accordion fold' we created folds that were also one inch wide. The strips containing the sun and moon were glued onto the card.
The resulting artwork is definitely fun to view. Take a look for yourself.
