First, they explained how to look after the flag. There are lots of rules about it. For example, you are not allowed to let the flag touch the ground. Also, you are not allowed to draw or write on it! They also explained the meaning of the tri colour; the green represents the 26 counties of the Republic, the orange represents the 6 counties of Northern Ireland and the white represents peace in Ireland.
Next, they told us about the Proclamation. There were seven people who signed it in 1916. Lee and Ethan read the Proclamation.
After that, the flag and Proclamation were presented to Klaudia and Orla.
Lastly, they told us that on March 15 2016, at midday, all the schools in Ireland will raise their flags to mark the 1916 Rising.
We’re all really excited about raising the flag next year and about learning more about 1916!
